The first indication of the site where The Portage la Prairie Mall was to be built was this billboard sign. It's anchor tenents would be Woolco and Safeway.
It was then construction of the mall was started. It was headed by The Daon Development Corporation and completed in time for the grand opening on March 17, 1979.
The Portage la Prairie Mall was owned by The Daon Development Corporation for the next 3 years. At that time it was managed by Brian Mannell. The mall was then purchased by Coachman and continued under the managment of Mannell. It was then sold to R.I.S Properties 1 year later and is still owned by them.
Several managers have operated the mall over a period of 32 years, this included: Brian Mannell, Richard Wood, Barbara Yule, Pat Doan, Jill Bariach, Ruth Gross, and Terry Lynn Brown. In 1999 R.I.S Properties hired Colliers Pratt McGarry as the management firm to take over operations of the mall.
Presently Lynne Jonasson is the Administratve Manager incharge of Promotions and Marketing. James Barwick is in charge of maintenance.
Rona became the new anchor tenant in the east end opening in November 2007.
Although The Portage la Prairie Mall has seem many changes over it's 30 years it is still a place that prides its self on small town hospitality and family fun.
